Travel guides to Czechia’s most beautiful places

Czechia is much more than Prague. It is a country of stunning and beautiful places waiting to be discovered.

Czechia has 17 UNESCO world-heritage sites, including the historic centres of Prague, Český Krumlov, Kutná Hora and Telč and its spa towns. Cities such as Brno, Olomuoc, Plzeň and Hradec Králové and smaller centres such as Tábor and Mikulov preserve surprising streetscapes. In between are some of central Europe's most picturesque landscapes.

VISIT CZECHIA’S CITIES

Czechia is the country many people still call the Czech Republic. Most travellers need an introduction to Czechia because its name is relatively strange and goes with few stereotypes.

Despite the challenges posed by the language, travel in Czechia is rewarding and not expensive by European standards.

The Czech lands owe their cultural heritage partly to Bohemia, partly to Moravia, and partly to the Holy Roman and Austro-Hungarian empires. Their troubled history includes war and religious upheaval, but also rich cultural triumphs in music and architecture.

Being near the centre of Europe has put the people of the Czech lands in line for shifts in fate and fashion. They have been subjects of distant lords and seen castles and palaces of nobles and of heavy industry. This had made them independently minded and they have remained quite distinct from their neighbours, the Germans, Austrians, Poles and Slovaks.

Seeing what is on offer, visitors will appreciate the difference.

Transport

Railways are Czechia's main intercity transport network, although long-distance buses provide alternatives. For urban transit, Prague's excellent metro lines and trams are the key links. Other large Czech cities such as Brno, Ostrava, Plžen and Olomuoc also have webs of tram lines providing the best connections.

Hotels, hostels & more

Accommodation is not expensive in most parts of Czechia. Single rooms in the rate range equivalent to €40-60 are not hard to find. Hotels and hostels of a high standard are available in big and medium-sized cities and guest facilities are also good in attractive small destinations.
