Weather in Czechia

Adequate dress in the Czech lands is about preparation for variations in weather. It is wise for travellers to carry a jacket much of the year and rain protection all year, keeping up to date with forecasts.

Czech temperatures are given in degrees Celsius, and rainfall in millimetres.

Spring: This is relatively cool in Czechia, starting cold in March and warming to cool or mild in May. There is often plenty of sunshine. Average maximums in Prague rise from about 8 deg C (46 deg F) in March to 15–25 deg C (59-77 deg F) by May. Evenings remain cool throughout.

Summer: Czech average daytime maximum temperatures usually range from 20-27 degrees C (68-80 F) and humidity can be high. June is usually the warmest month but late August conditions can cool rapidly. Recent summers in central Europe have been hot and volatile by historical standards. During intense heatwaves in 2024 temperatures rose above 35 deg C (95 deg F) in the south and central parts of the country. A few of these hot spells are have been followed by torrential rain. In 2025 temperatures were cooler, near the average of about 17 deg (63 deg F). Airconditioning is not common.

Autumn: September can remain warm, but rain generally follows in October, appearing in some form one day out of two, and frosty evenings develop through November. Prague maximums tend to the 13 to 16 deg C (55 to 61 deg F) range.

Winter: Snow is common from December to February and temperatures in some regions can fall to -20 deg C (-4 F). But such cold has not been the norm in the 2020s and in February temperatures climbed above 20 deg in parts of southern Bohemia. These levels were not approached in other parts of the country.
