The most beautiful cities in Sweden

Sweden is a country of rare beauty, even amid its starkest northern landscapes. Its cities and towns testify to 1000 years of urban life, but there are precious places offering glimpses into even older traditions of human settlement.

Weather

Because of its wide variation in latitude, Sweden’s northern climate swings wildly between snowy winter landscapes and beautiful sunny days. The southern, most populated area is temperate with relatively mild winters. Warm summers can still be enjoyed in the central zones.

The peak summer July-August period is ushered in with the midsummer solstice celebration late in June.

Snow is not unusual in Stockholm early in April and rain is common in southern Sweden in September and October, making an umbrella advisable.

Arctic and sub-arctic temperatures can reach minus 30 deg C in winter, but can rise above 20 deg C in the short summer.
