Affordable hotels in Sweden

Most European budget hotel groups are not represented in Sweden. The Ibis group runs only one, in Stockholm. The Swedish Ligula Hospitality Group operates in the affordable hotel sector, with 14 Swedish hotels under the Good Morning Hotels brand, 10 under the ProfilHotels brand and three hotels branded Motel L. There are also several Danish hotels.

There are several variants of the Best Western group brand, and in Sweden the lowest-priced offers fall in the budget range. Best Western operates about a dozen Stockholm hotels in the affordable category, six in Gothenburg, two in Malmö and is represented in many regional cities.

The Scandinavian First Hotels group includes 30 Swedish hotels, the majority of which offer rooms in the affordable category.

Some hotels in the Scandic Hotels group fall into the affordable range. The developing Scandic Go brand hotels involve digital check-in and services and come with a laundry room. But in 2025 only two were open and a handful were on the way.

The Elite Hotels group of 40 hotels, many in restored buildings, is towards the top end, but some offers might be affordable if booked well in advance.

Much of the time, budget travellers will search for privately operated hotels. Getting cheap rates will sometimes involve small rooms, rooms without windows, or no-frills service with remote check-in. Check out Raven Guides’ blog for tips on how no-frills service helps travellers get lower hotel rates.
