Eisenach Germany

Eisenach

Eisenach, where the young Martin Luther made a home and Johann Sebastian Bach was born, is an attractive historical town with intriguing streetscapes.

The priceless Romanesque castle called the Wartburg above Eisenach is valuable as probably the best preserved medieval castle in Germany. The glittering ladies' chamber and the main hall are complemented by the chamber where the disguised Luther translated the Bible and a magnificent all-round view.

Other attractions are a town palace, medieval churches and gates and period town houses. The Bach house, with a museum devoted to his work, and the ornate house where Luther lived, are open to the public.
