Hallein

The border town south of Salzburg tells the story of the Celtic inheritance of the region, the historical salt trade, and the world's favourite Christmas carol, Silent Night.

The Keltenmuseum Hallein shows a 11,000-year journey through history in its archaeology. Highlights include a bronze helmet. Salzwelten Salzburg and the Kelten.Erlebnis.Berg nearby at Dürrnberg focus on the salt industry driven by the Celts and reconstructs a village.

The grave of Franz Xaver Gruber, composer of the Silent Night tune, is near the town.
Hallein is also a winter sport centre, featuring the Keltenblitz alpine slide at Bad Dürrnberg nearby.
