Dürnstein

Dürnstein's Gothic buildings and stairways maintain a medieval atmosphere despite the beautiful Baroque abbey at the edge of the Danube. This wine-growing village is dominated by the ruin of the castle where Richard the Lionheart was once kept hostage.

Dürnstein forms part of the Wachau world heritage landscape and is a bus ride or river cruise hop from Krems.
