Hotels in Czechia

There were more than 10,000 hotels, other accommodation houses and campsites in Czechia in 2024, according to the country’s statistical office. The overall total represents about 560,000 beds.

About 44% of these accommodation places were pensions or hotels garnis (offering bed and breakfast) and 6.8% were tourist hostels. About 2,700 were classified as hotels.

For advance bookings, expect 2026 costs to start about 1,000Kč a night for a basic hotel single, though rates in Prague rise considerably higher. A more usual Prague three-star starting rate is in the 1,300-1,500Kč range.

Making bookings

Accommodation bookings are described by day of arrival (příjezd) and departure (odjezdu, odchod) – hence the morning after the last night’s stay should be included. Expect to provide a credit or debit card number when booking a room (pokoj) online, by email or by phone. English (or sometimes German) is widely spoken by staff in large city hotels and most hotel websites can be translated. Otherwise, especially in small towns, ask for a single room (jednolůžkový pokoj) or double (dvoulůžkový pokoj) with breakfast (snídaně).

Three strong hotel booking principles are:

  • Book early (especially in Prague)
  • Compare booking site rates with hotels’ own sites where possible
  • Check differences between weekday and weekend rates

Last-minute bookings might be cheap as well, but the practice will likely turn out to be expensive. Sign up for a free report on How to get the lowest hotel rate online 100% of the time, (and get free weekly Raven Travel Guides Europe newsletters on European travel).

Often Czech accommodation bookings, especially when handled through booking websites, will be priced in euro – which is not necessarily the same as paying in euro (although some hotels will accept this).

Accommodation taxes

Czechia charges a 12% value-added tax on accommodation, but advertised rates should include this amount. This is lower than the rate on accommodation rentals, which is 21%.
